MOT Testing in Sunbury, Shepperton and the Wider Surrey Area

Is your MOT certificate approaching its expiration date? It’s essential that you don’t let this document lapse. By law, most cars aged 3 years and over must undergo this test on an annual basis to ensure adequate roadworthiness, safety and emissions standards. If you drive a car without a valid MOT, you will face a financial penalty. You also won’t be able to renew your road tax and it will almost certainly invalidate your car insurance. MOT testing not only safeguards you, but every other motorist you encounter too.

T & S Autos is a DVSA-approved MOT garage in Shepperton. With a reputation for honesty, integrity and outstanding customer service, we welcome motorists from Sunbury, Walton-on-Thames and the surrounding Surrey areas.

When your car passes MOT testing, your certificate is valid for 12 months. The earliest you can renew this document is a month before the expiry date. We add any time in hand on the old certificate to the new one.

What is an MOT?

In short, an MOT is an annual health check-up for your car or commercial vehicle. The test itself involves a multipoint checklist of visual inspections. This covers an extensive range of internal and external components.

As a strictly visual test, the examiners in our MOT garage are not allowed to remove or change anything on your vehicle. This is why it’s so important to stay up-to-date with your car servicing, as it covers the aspects MOT testing doesn’t.

When we pass your vehicle, we certify that its relevant parts meet the current legal standards. From this point, you’re free to get back out on the roads of Shepperton, Sunbury and Surrey again.

What Kind of MOT Testing Do You Provide?

Our mechanics perform class 4 and class 7 MOTs.

  • Class 4 MOTs – This is the most common form of testing we provide at our MOT garage. It covers all passenger cars but extends to other types of vehicle too
  • Class 7 MOTs – Our mechanics primarily perform this MOT on light commercial vehicles with a design gross weight between 3,000kg and 3,500kg

To find out if any of your vehicles fall into the class 4 or class 7 category, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

MOTs typically take between 45 and 60 minutes to complete. If you require additional car repairs to pass, this will extend the test’s duration.

We recognise the inconvenience of taking your car off the road, so we strive to complete your test as quickly as possible. Our MOT garage has dedicated MOT testing bays to keep the likelihood of delays at an absolute minimum.

If you’re unable to visit our garage, or you’re too busy to take time off work, T & S Autos provides a free vehicle pick-up and delivery service in local areas like Shepperton and Sunbury. Alternatively, you’re more than welcome to wait in our comfortable waiting room.

What Happens If My Car Fails the MOT?

There are numerous ways your car can fail its MOT testing. For example, 18% of all cars fail because of faulty lighting. 7% of cars fail due to tyre issues while almost 10% fail because of brake-related problems.

If your car does fail the first MOT, there’s no need to panic. If you haven’t left it to the last minute, your old certificate will still have validity. This means you can legally return to the road, providing your car doesn’t have any issues classified as ‘dangerous’.

However, we will record the failure on a VT30 certificate, so you must perform the necessary repairs and then undergo a partial MOT retest.

Because our MOT garage in Shepperton covers all types of car repairs in Sunbury, Walton-on-Thames and the neighbouring areas, we can carry these out for you on a responsive basis, usually on the same day. Needless to say, we won’t undertake work without your prior approval.
